Hi! I’m Paula, a Clinical Psychologist offering individual therapy to adolescents and adults.
About Me:
I hold a Masters in Clinical Psychology, full registration and endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist, and am a board-approved supervisor.
I have primarily worked within public child and youth mental health services, supporting young people and their families with complex mental health difficulties. In my individual practice, I have a specific interest in working with older adolescents and young adults.
Therapy Approach:
My practice style is warm, relaxed and reflective. I aim to create a space where you feel accepted and understood, as well as challenged with new perspectives and ways of thinking. I understand that there are many reasons for commencing therapy, and will help you to use the therapy space in a way that supports your goals.
I practice through a range of treatment modalities based on your individual needs and goals. I am trained in and primarily utilise Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and relational and insight-oriented (psychodynamic) therapy.
Therapy may be shorter-term, with a focus on a specific issue or symptom reduction, as well as longer-term, with a focus on a deeper understanding of yourself and your current or past experiences.
Reasons for Therapy:
You do not need a specific reason to engage in therapy. However, some common concerns I treat include:
generalised anxiety, social anxiety, and OCD
low mood and depression
difficulties with strong emotions, managing distress, and maladaptive coping
difficulties within relationships (creating meaningful relationships, feeling understood in relationships, boundaries, and assertiveness)
coping with life transitions and adjustments
difficulties with identity, self-concept, and self-esteem
I also provide services to individuals seeking therapy to improve overall psychological wellbeing or gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their experience.
Please note I do not currently provide psychometric assessments (i.e. cognitive or learning assessments) or assessments for the purposes of legal proceedings. At this time, I do not provide psychological services under the NDIS.
Availability:
I have availability on Saturday only.
If you are thinking about starting therapy, or are wondering how I may be able to support you, please get in touch.
I am currently not accepting new clients due to maternity leave. If you are a current or previous client wishing to resume sessions, please get in contact to discuss my return to practice.
